HISTORY: In the early 1980s, Bill Atkinson—creator of HyperCard, QuickDraw, and MacPaint—developed a brilliant technique for displaying tonal images on the original Macintosh's 1-bit screen. That algorithm became legendary among designers and classic Mac users, yet it remained buried in Apple's scanner software for years. In 2003, Bill personally shared the original algorithm with Tinrocket founder John Balestrieri, who implemented it in HyperDither and published the details so other developers could implement it. あこがれの白黒２値！
1987年、私の最初のレトロなビットマップの感動は、Appleのスキャナに付いていたドライバー。HyperCardも作ったビル・アトキンソンの白黒2値のやつ。あのディザリングは、他では実現できなくて、超あこがれた。スキャナは高額すぎて買えなかった。 最近はPhotoShopにも似たようなエフェクトがあるんだけど、ちょっと違うんだよなぁ、と思って、調べてみたら、なんとビル・アトキンソンに直接アルゴリズムを教えてもらって作ったというアプリがあった！エレガントですねぇ。
